Introduction to Photovoltaics
This exciting course in Green Energy is both a hands-on and information-based class that will help students pass the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level Solar Installer Exam. NABCEP is a nationally recognized certifying agency for solar installers. The Entry Level Certificate can be used to get a job with a local solar installation company, as it demonstrates that you have achieved a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar heating systems. While the focus of this program is on the academic knowledge needed to pass the exam, more thanĀ half of the hours will be used for practical hands-on experience. The class will jointly build a working solar system using common PV components and electrical parts and tools.
The class will integrate theory, laws and regulations with practical applications. Topics
include system sizing and design exercises, basic electronics, basic electrical wiring, safety, and a discussion about the viability of solar and other alternative energy systems.
